SDG&E desired to construct a GIS-centric solution for asset related vegetation management (VM) and transmission construction and maintenance (TCM). Selected as their trusted advisor and implementation partner for the PowerWorkz project, POWER implemented Azteca Systems Cityworks® AMS and iWater’s infraMAP software with integrations to Outage Management and SAP. Cityworks fully leverages SDG&E’s investment in GIS in a way that was usable by every level of the utility’s work force. Tightly linked to Cityworks, the infraMAP software allows field crews to perform inspections and other activities.
Accomplishments
- Transmission & Distribution World featured this project as the cover story in January 2015 highlighting the significant impact of this system deployment on the utility’s operations.
- Specialized work processes at SDG&E required customization of the software to meet their needs
- POWER delivered significant savings on GIS integration services and development costs associated with deploying Cityworks asset management and infraMAP field capabilities
- Custom reports satisfied regulatory requirements for vegetation management and transmission inspection processes
- Moved to a paperless environment that automated some procedures for more efficient workflows
- POWER documented existing workflows – resulting in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and improved processes
