POWER provided arc flash, coordination and device evaluation analysis for ten of Mirant’s major (400 to 2,300 MW) generating facilities in California, New England and Mid Atlantic states. Tasks included on-site data acquisition and development of plant electrical models using SKM PTW software. Short circuit analysis was used to evaluate protective device ratings. Arc flash analysis was performed to identify incident energies and personal protective equipment (PPE) levels for working near energized equipment. Labels were printed for all applicable electrical enclosures from the utility connections down to the 480 V load centers. Changes to protective device equipment or settings were recommended for situations with mis-coordination or excessive incident energies. Studies were performed based on NFPA-70E and IEEE-1584 standards.
